1. Who We Are

The Institute for Human Awareness™ (the “Institute,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a registered trade name owned and operated by Steve Engle in the State of Ohio. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you visit instituteforhumanawareness.com, subscribe to communications, create or use a Member account, submit a form, download a publication, or otherwise interact with the Institute’s website and related online services (collectively, the “Site”).

The Site is built and hosted using Wix and Wix applications. Wix and other service providers may process information on our behalf or under their own terms and privacy notices.

 

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information.

 

A. Information You Provide Directly

• Contact information, such as your name, email address, city, state or region, and country.
• Newsletter information, including subscription status, consent records, and communication preferences.
• Member account information, including profile details, interest areas, participation preferences, and account status.

 

Authentication credentials and passwords are handled through the Wix Members system; we do not receive your password in readable form.
• Form and communication content, including questions, feedback, survey responses, topic or guest recommendations, and other information you choose to submit.
• Administrative correspondence, such as requests to access, correct, or delete your information.

Please do not submit medical records, diagnoses, treatment details, financial account information, government identification numbers, passwords, or other sensitive personal information through Institute forms. Institute forms are not designed to receive confidential medical, therapeutic, legal, or financial information.

 

B. Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Site, Wix and other technology providers may automatically collect information such as:

• Internet Protocol (IP) address;
• browser, device, and operating-system information;
• pages viewed, links clicked, referring pages, and time spent on the Site;
• approximate geographic location derived from IP address;
• log, security, performance, and diagnostic information; and
• cookie and similar-technology data.

 

C. Information From Service Providers

We may receive information from providers that support the Site, including Wix, email-delivery providers, analytics services, and social-media platforms when you interact with Institute content through those services.

 

3. How We Use Information

 

We may use personal information to:

• operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site;
• create and administer Member accounts and private Member pages;
• provide newsletters, publication notices, and other communications you request;
• respond to questions, feedback, and requests;
• understand Member and subscriber interests;
• invite Members to surveys, feedback opportunities, interviews, conversations, or future activities;
• analyze Site traffic, performance, and engagement;
• prevent fraud, misuse, security incidents, and technical problems;
• maintain consent, subscription, and opt-out records;
• comply with applicable law and enforce our Terms of Use; and
• support the Institute’s educational, publishing, research, and community-development activities.

 

We do not use Member intake responses to provide medical, mental-health, legal, financial, therapeutic, or coaching services.

 

4. Newsletter and Other Email Communications

We send newsletter and publication communications only when you request or consent to receive them. Newsletter subscription is separate from Institute Membership. You may become a Member without subscribing to the newsletter, and you may subscribe without creating a Member account.

You may unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting us. We may retain limited suppression-list information necessary to honor your opt-out request.

 

We may also send non-promotional account, security, privacy, or administrative messages that are necessary to operate a Member account or respond to your requests.

 

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functions, security, preferences, analytics, and, if later enabled, other optional functions. Essential cookies may be necessary for the Site and Member login to operate.

Where available, you can manage optional cookie choices through the Site’s cookie banner or cookie-settings tool. You may also control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect Site functionality.

We do not currently use personal information for third-party targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising. If that changes, this Privacy Policy and the Site’s cookie controls should be updated before the new use begins.

 

6. How We Disclose Information

We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:

 

A. Service Providers

We may share information with providers that help us host, secure, analyze, maintain, or communicate through the Site. These may include Wix, email-delivery services, analytics providers, cloud-storage providers, and technical support providers.

 

B. Legal, Safety, and Security Purposes

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful process, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or address fraud or security concerns.

 

C. Business or Organizational Changes

If the Institute’s operations are transferred, reorganized, or placed into a new legal entity, information may be transferred as part of that change, subject to applicable law and continued protection of the information.

 

D. With Your Direction or Consent

We may disclose information when you ask us to do so or provide consent. We will obtain additional permission before publicly identifying you with a contribution, quotation, testimonial, or Member story unless the context clearly indicates that your submission is intended for public use.

We do not sell personal information for money. At launch, we do not provide personal information to third parties for their own targeted advertising.

 

7. Member Accounts and Profiles

Member accounts are intended to support private account access, Member preferences, and participation in Institute activities. At launch:

• Member profiles are not publicly visible;
• the Institute does not operate a public Member directory;
• Member activity is not intended to be displayed to general Site visitors; and
• Member-to-Member social features are not part of the initial Site experience.

 

If the Institute later introduces public profiles, discussion features, groups, or a Member directory, we will review and update the applicable privacy settings, notices, and participation rules before launch.

 

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including maintaining an active account or subscription, responding to requests, documenting consent and opt-out preferences, protecting the Site, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations.

Retention periods may vary according to the type of information and how it is used. We may retain de-identified or aggregated information that no longer reasonably identifies an individual.

 

9. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the information we maintain. The Site also relies on the security measures provided by Wix and other service providers.

No website, transmission, storage system, or security measure can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for protecting your Member credentials and should notify us if you believe your account has been compromised.

 

10. Your Choices and Privacy Requests

You may:

• unsubscribe from newsletter communications;
• update certain Member profile or account information through the Members Area;
• manage optional cookies through the cookie-settings tool, where available; and
• request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with you.

 

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have additional privacy rights. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. We may retain information where required by law or where a valid exception applies.

To submit a privacy request, contact us using the information in Section 15.

 

11. International Processing

The Site and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those locations may have data-protection laws that differ from the laws where you live. Where required, service providers may use contractual or other safeguards for international transfers.

 

12. Children’s Privacy

The Site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Member accounts are intended for individuals who are at least 18 years old.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the Site, contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

 

 

13. Third-Party Websites and Services

The Site may link to websites, social-media platforms, publications, videos, or services operated by others. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for the privacy or security practices of third parties.

 

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Site, Membership, Library, communications, or applicable requirements change. The revised Policy will be posted with an updated effective or revision date. Material changes may also be communicated through the Site or by email when appropriate.
